Why did we create SafetyPin?

We needed a secure online place to store user names, passwords, license codes, WEP keys, and all kinds of other information we didn't want in clear text. SafetyPin is your secure place for this sensitive information. Plus you can create multi-user accounts and give groups access to shared secrets.

How is my data secure from prying eyes?

Your web browser has an amazing amount of cryptographic horse power to be able to encrypt your information before it is transmitted to our data center. This means there is no chance for anyone but you to access your secrets. When you create a secret entry, you will be prompted for a passkey. This passkey is used to encrypt your secret, and the encrypted "bits" are stored in your online account. When you want to read the secret later, you will be prompted for your passkey again. Only at that time will your web browser unencrypt the secret.

Why store secrets in a online application?

Web applications, when expertly architected, provide just as much security as a local application installed on your PC, and also provides the flexibility to access your information from anywhere, on any computer. Your data is always backed up and secure with our web applications. A secure web application is also great place for saving shared secrets, such as the kind of information an information technology department needs to share.

Where is my data?

Our rock-solid hosting partner has data centers around the world, with two locations in the United States. Their US data centers are in Texas and New York City. We also make a secondary backup of your data to Amazon's S3 storage facility. Our data encryption algorithm ensures your secrets can only be read by you because all encryption is performed in your browser with your passkey. Your passkey is never stored with the data, which means your secret is safe with us.
